Our Fuchun Story
Fuchun Primary School was established in 1985 to serve a growing number
of young families, the school initially operated at a holding site in Woodlands
Secondary School before moving to its first permanent campus at Woodlands
Centre Road. Fuchun started as a double-session school with 1,200 pupils
and 37 classrooms.
Through the years, we placed strong emphasis on holistic student development,
providing a wide range of customised learning opportunities for Fuchunians
to excel in different areas. Programmes such as the P5 Camp, Values-in
Action and the annual sports meet were introduced to enrich students’ learning.
Fuchun Primary School became well-known in Woodlands for its strong culture
of care and was recognised as the Cluster Centre of Excellence (COE) for
Music Education in 2005. The school’s Learning for Life Programme in Music
Education and Performing Arts titled “Aesthetically Responding to Shine”
(ARTS) provides students with opportunities to showcase their performances
or artworks publicly, helping them develop confidence as performers.
We officially moved to our current premises on 7 July 2007. Our official
opening was a night to remember where students and staff come together
to perform, showcasing our strengths in the Arts.
Our students embraced music beyond Singapore through Music Exchange Programme
and international competitions. They also put up an unprecedented performance
at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to foreign visitors, and
the Singapore Ambassador to UN. We attained the National Arts Education
Award (Spark Level), recognising our Aesthetics Education in the areas
of Music, Visual Arts, Dance as well as Speech and Drama.
Our signature Home Skills Programme, that was initially launched in 2007
for latch key students, expanded to all students to teach them valuable
life skills such as cooking and sewing, to help them be independent and
self-reliant. We were invited to share the Homeskills Programme at the
2009 Redesigning Pedagogy International Conference.
We introduced the Homeroom Programme in 2018 to develop our students’
social-emotional competencies, leadership capacities and strengthen teacher-student
relationships. Leadership opportunities also are provided for all through
the Prefectorial Board, Class Committees and in CCAs.
